Description

Alberto D'Andrea, Giuseppe Tafuri, The coins of Peucezia, Castellalto (TE), Editions D'Andrea, 2009

The book represents the third chapter in the study of the coinage of the ancient peoples of Apulia. This time the usual classic introduction is not re-proposed, as it would have been identical to that of the work "The coins of Daunia", but, once the previous one is established, two new themes are addressed: the archaic history of the entire region and the ancient languages in it in use. The mints examined are Azetium, Bari, Bitonto, Grumum, Mateola (today's Matera, now in Basilicata but once an Apulian city), Neapolis Peuceta, Rubi, Sidis and Venosa. To complete the comparison between the Roman and Apulian issues, the coins of Bari and Venosa were compared with the similar coins of Canosa and Lucera.
